Welcome!

My name is Kelly Moore Clark, and I'm based out of Ruston, LA...yes
Louisiana! I live here with my wonderful hubby Kelly Clark, and our way
too cute little girl, Posey, whom you will see much too often on this
blog(I can't believe I've become one of "those" mothers.)

This is where you will see my most recent work as well as
what’s going on in my life, my business, my mind and my heart. My goal
is to share with you something real....whether that is through
photography or just telling you what is going on in my life. Too often
I think that we try to put up pretty pictures, but we don't want to
show who we really are. I'm not always eloquent, and you can always depend on me to be inappropriate, but I will always try to be honest :)

Feel free to come in, leave me a message (you
know how us photographers love comments!), have a seat and stay a
while!! I promise I won't tell your boss ;)

Thanks for stopping by!

Kelly

Tidbits….Don’t be afraid of the sun(and a little contest too)

For years, I ran from the direct sun!  I was always running to even shade, and praying for overcast days.  I have learned embraced the sunshine.  In fact, I’m sad when I have a shoot and the sun doesn’t come out to play.  I think the trick is not thinking of it as sunlight, but as another light that I have in my bag of tricks.  I use it just as if I were using a strobe.  I love it when it’s really harsh at about 3:00 in the afternoon, but I also like it just before the sunset as it’s just on the horizon.   If you notice, I try not to get harsh raccoon eyes  that sometimes happen when you are in the direct sun.  The way to avoid these is to have your subject  “bask”…you know….face to the sky…..oh, what a glorious day:)  It’s also fun to see what magic happens when the sun is setting, also,  don’t forget to look for neat shadows that happen as the sun shines through random objects throughout the day.

Here are a few images where I was using the sun.

Now you try!  Go use the sun, Post it on your blog, and leave the link to your post in the comments area below so we can see what you’ve done.
April 13th, I’ll post my favorite, and I’ll send you a $50 gift certificate to Target.

Nicole - I have to thank you for this post. This weekend, I did a senior shoot for my cousin Cara, and totally found myself telling her to bask. Thing is, it worked! I'm so excited about how the images turned out, and I'm not even worried about some of the shadows that she has on her face because the light just made them so darned pretty regardless! For a sneak peek of the shoot and an example of working with the light (almost at high noon, no less): http://www.nicoleneffphotography.com/blog/?p=888

April - Ok So I tried this last week, the 3pm shoot. I hated them. Everything in the background was so bright & white it over powered the subjects. I know it's a newbie thing to ask but what am I doing wrong?

Kelly - Ruby- I tell them: "Close your eyes....when I count to 3, open them....when you hear the shutter click, close them again....

Ruby Slippers - How do you stop your subjects from looking all squinty and blinky if they're looking up a bit?

Andrea Hughes - Hi girl...what can I say--I learned from the best! My GMM session with you set me up honey! here's my fav shot of this year. http://andreahughesphotographyblog.com/?p=463

Michelle Moore - Kelly, Does it have to be a new photo, or a recent/older photo? There is just NO sun out in Seattle right now, but I would love to enter with an older photo!! -Michelle
